She carved my time with a butcher’s knife
And served my portions rare
I asked her would she spare a life
She said she wouldn’t dare
My thoughts assembled quietly
As my eyes met her stare
I asked
“What can I do for you?”
She told me
“Pay your fare”
I emptied out my pockets
She was deaf to my confessions
I smiled wide to charm her
She was blind to my impressions
“Well how much does it cost to live?”
I asked my silly question
I said
“I don’t know what to give”
She said
“Just learn your lessons”
