What are thoughts, really?

"Be careful to not think life is different than it is."

You receive information through sensation. Thoughts are translations of your surroundings, of what you receive. You do not generate thoughts. You are not the creator or originator of thoughts. They are meant to pass through you as unbiased information. You attach meaning to the information based on your past experiences and emotional patterns. Thoughts are meant to pass, not be held and accumulated.

Thoughts need an outlet. If there is no expression of thoughts, then they circle and spin and tangle in the confined space of your consciousness. They may overflow into your subconscious and become a part of your personality, embedded into your frame, your structure, your body. They become your reality, your basis for judging everything, your rules to rely on for making decisions, your automatic responses, your first "natural" reactions.

People tend to associate thinking with knowing, consiousness as intelligence. We repeat the infamous quote "I think, therefore I am." What do I think? Thoughts are the salesman of knowledge. They form communication and ways to trick ourselves over-produce reasons and excuses. Knowledge comes from all sensory input that you are able to receive and process--touch, smell, sound, sight, and beyond. Sensory information is translated into feelings the body has, what is called intuition, and thoughts are interpretations and articulations of those feelings. Two people can experience the same stimulus and interpret it differently. What makes one person sad can make another happy or fearful. The thoughts they have and the language they use to describe the experience will be different.

Thoughts are meant to help you decipher and make sense of the world. They help you decide what to give your body and what to do in different circumstances. They  determine what to do with time and the value of effort. Thoughts are meant to help us connect with ourselves and our surroundings. They are unique to you and your understanding. Be careful to not think life is different than it is.
